Business View Caribbean - July 2025

Seaboard Marine, a regional shipping line founded in 1983, provides weekly service across North, Central, and South America, as well as the Caribbean. In 1995, the company began its Jamaican journey by acquiring the Miami-to-Kingston route and assets from Kirk Line, appointing Jamaica Freight & Shipping Company Limited as its agent. Under the leadership of Chairman Charles Johnston and founding CEO Grantley Stephenson, Seaboard Jamaica officially opened on October 1, 1999. Since then, it has grown steadily, now employing over 100 people. In 2002, the company launched a bonded warehouse in Montego Bay, affectionately known as “Small Wharf.” Two years later, it opened its own agency in Montego Bay, deepening its presence in western Jamaica. Today, Seaboard Marine is the only shipping line offering uninterrupted weekly service to Western Jamaica via its dedicated feeder vessel, MV Seaboard Sun. The company also provides a unique benefit; free chassis for customers, a legacy of its roll-on/roll-off service, supported by a fully staffed chassis yard. Reflecting on the journey, current CEO CorahAnn Robertson Sylvester shares, “It’s hard to believe 25 years have passed. I’m incredibly proud of Seaboard Jamaica’s growth and its contribution to the Jamaican shipping community.”
